Introduction

Intel® Power Gadget is a software-based power usage monitoring tool enabled for Intel® Core™ processors (from 2nd Generation up to 10th Generation Intel® Core™ processors). Intel® Atom™ processors are not supported. It is supported on Windows* and macOS* and includes an application, driver, and libraries to monitor and estimate real-time processor package power information in watts using the energy counters in the processor. With this release, we are providing functionality to evaluate power information on various platforms including notebooks, desktops and servers. Windows 7* and 32-bit versions of the Intel® Power Gadget for Windows* has ceased development from 3.0.7. Starting with version 3.5 and going forward, only the 64-bit version and Windows 8* will be supported.

Background

Traditional methods to estimate power/energy usage of the processor has always been a cumbersome task that included special purpose tools or instrumentation on the platform along with third party equipment. The motivation for the tool was to assist end-users, ISV's, OEM's, developers, and others interested in a more precise estimation of power from a software level without any H/W instrumentation.

New Features

In version 3.0 there are additional features that include estimation of power on multi-socket systems as well as externally callable APIs to extract power information within sections of code. The multi-socket support essentially evaluates the Energy MSR on a per-socket basis and provides an estimate of power draw per socket. The API layer is a set of libraries and dlls that can be called and offers the flexibility to build the tool within code sections of an application. Latest release also includes support for Windows 10*.

Monity

Brief Description (Windows*)

Intel® Power Gadget 3.5 consists of the following components. Set of driver and libraries which access and post process the processor energy counter to calculate the power usage in Watts, temperate in Celsius and frequency in GHz (default install directory will be ~Program FilesIntelPower Gadget 3.5). A command line version of the tool (PowerLog3.0.exe) is also included

System Requirements (Windows*)

  • Windows 8*
  • Windows 10*
  • Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012
  • Microsoft .NET* Framework 4

Works Great
The gadget's always worked great but I had an issue seeing the processor name the last few versions. I have to say after following the directions in the FAQ the problem is fixed and I'm back to full functionality again. The 2nd step about registering xml was apparently the problem. Anyone out there using this app, follow the FAQ about display problems and you should be fine, great gadget and very informational.

Great Addon
I have used this type of monitoring meter for 4+ years and find it very useful in watching the load of all my computers (3). I had to do an upgrade and hard drive replacement recently and I was really concerned when this meter was not shown on the gadget list on my Win 7 setup data. I had it running on my other computer and found the correct location to recover my meter. I am pleased.

Very excited to find this gadget, and right after noticing MS stopped supporting. AMD Phenom x6 support! No way! I'm sold. And I have come back just now to ask for an updated core speed and temp and found the PC Meter addon already exists. Sweetness!

Great to have them on Windows 8
I was very disappointed when MS decided to drop Gadget support for Windows 8. Imagine my delight when updating gadgets on my last Windows 7 machines I discovered that Helmut had provided Windows 8 support. That warrants another donation! Excellent tools and I'm very glad to have them back. P.S. I vote for an update manager as a future project. I use a number of these gadgets on a number of machines. Updates can take awhile.

A Must Have
For many years now, I have used the amount of memory, and CPU usage to 'feel' how my system is doing, and whether or not my system has been infected. I know what to expect in the readings, and can tell if something fishy is changing the way the system is operating.
These tool are a must. More than that, these are the best available. Thank you!

Great
I love the gadget and its always worked great, but I'm having a problem showing the processor name since v4.5. I've tried on different systems that I'm sure worked before, but for some reason turning it on or off simply shows up blank on the gadget. it's not anything crucial, but it would be nice to have that back again. Other than that, your gadgets are great and I make sure to install them on all my systems whether at home or at work.

Functional and Useful
I use the meters to verify when unnecessary background files (widows & orphans) files are eating up CPU speed and slowing down my PC. Along with Task Manager, it helps me to decide when to run a file cleaner and which services/processes should be reined in. I'm not upgrading to Windows 8 from Windows 7 64-bit, until their Service Pack 25 (wry humor) is released. Great work!

All CPU Meter
This is the most useful gizmo that I found yet. For people less familiar with computers this program is excellent for providing an indication as to when it is save to dive in so to speak, and a general over-all idea of computer health. Most of the problems I find people having with their machines are engaging in high resource programs inappropriately before the machine has completed all the boot-up launching procedures, causing them to panic when they receive error messages. I tell them just wait until your CPU resource indicator flat-lines. I've found this practice eludes many problems and errors later on. I can't be sure of the accuracy of the core temperature readings, but I've never found a core temp monitor returning temp values consistent with another. It does let you know if you're operating within a safe range.
Awesome program, THANKS!

Great Stuff!!
I have been using CPU Meter, Drives Meter, Battery Meter (on my Laptop), Network Meter, and GPU meter since the early days of Vista. These are far and away the best performance meters available! They, when configured properly, show more useful information in a line down the side of my screen than I can get scrolling through several pages of stuff on Task Manager, and it's all visible at a glance! As the title says, Great Stuff!! - Rocky

All CPU Meter
I have been using it for more than a year now and am quite satisfied with its performance. It helps me understand my lap top's functioning and limitations. I find it indispensable in working with my lap top. Thanks for the gadget.

PC Meter not running
I wrote yesterday about this. I found out the reason. PC Meter needs to run with admin rights. Once I set its properties to run with admin rights, the core temperature begin to show correctly in CPU meter. Thanks for this great gadget. I have been using it for more than a year now. It had served me well.

colour bars
I find this gadget great, dissapointed it will not work in W8.. due to MS security worries. BUT, I would prefer the useage bars to be coloured by usage so if high it turns through range colours to red showing HOT, rather than just colours for different processors. Hopefully makes sense.
Advice on how to use similar apps or gadgets in Win8 would be great. I use this , GPU, and network at visual guides to how my machine is running real time.
cheers mike durham

Proven Gadget
Several Years ago I was not sure about running this gadget on my machine, I will tell you now that I dont run a machine without it, Zero issue's with compatability, never and issue's with it interfearing with any operations, and always one of the first things I can look to for a quick status of operations on my system.
I would like to say Thank You to the developer and all his work to get this to us, I have made several donations to ensure he is able to do more.

PC Meter & G15
Great job, good sir. There is only one thing now, because of which I don't install new version: PC Meter in it's current stage of develop is not supports G15. For me it's very helpful to see CPU core temps in any fullscreen app.
So, if you implement G15 support in PC Meter, it would be amazing and I'm definitely install your app.

Excellent but...
I have been using your gadgets since the onset of the dreaded Vista and and find that yours are the first gadgets loaded (and I have 12 screens of gadgets). However, since the change to (inhouse?) PC Meter, I find that the core temps do not always show despite having PC Meter running. Is this a commont problem or is it just me? And I concur with a previous reviewer who suggested a control just to show the hottest (or most used) core rather than the full whack (which is 12 in my case). I also like the idea of this changing colour to indicate the temp as well - could be used instead of PC Temp!
Keep up the good work and there'll be a donation on its way soon!

All CPU Meter is THE BEST!
This is one of the BEST apps. in a virtual world overloaded with mostly useless 'Kiddy-Litter!' and despite all the work put into it.. they still only ask for a donation. That's dedication. (shame on you if you don't show your appreciation with a donation!)
Thanks!
Keep up the great work!!

Great !!
I love this app for my desktop and laptop, the meters for RAM and core usage is excellent. One thing, I know for a fact that I have a quad-core processor yet it shows that I have 8 cores. It may be showing that I have 8 threads, and still naming them as cores 1-8. Thats the only thing, but not too big of a deal.

NICE SOFTWARE
i think this is a varry nice but i needs some improvements. like the start up is verry slow when i turn my computer on it takes 13 seconds to start up this gaddet and the other thing you can add to the gadget is a tempiture so i know how hot or cold my computer is and when its too hot it will make a pop up so if im playing a game it will warn me!

GREAT.. but..
Think this is a great app and I won't complain (too much) about things for free.. but if there was some things I would like to see different, listed below:
1. The ability to show just one processor instead of 8 I have listed. Perhaps options to show the highest running.
2. Anyway to use Core Temp with processor speed colors? Have them change color in correlation with how hot they are running.. Green, yellow, red.
3. Is there a way to show fan speed? More or less, this is a wish list of my desires for the ultimate app.. I use CPU Usage, Network Meter, GPU Meter, and Digital Clock.. Love them all. Just wish I could see some minor corrections.
Thanks!

Great Tool
This is a great tool. I rely on it constantly. It has a low usage on my AMD 64X4 FX and I feel confident when I multitask with heavy apps that I'm not going to heat up even near a high temp. There is none like it and I would hate to see it go.

This Gadget Eats Up CPU
Wonderful gadget *IF* it didn't eat up my CPU usage. For those non-techie types, that means it maxes out your processors and ties up your computer. I'll uninstall/re-install and see if it happens again. Would really love to use this, tho.

Hi..
I find your gadget wonderful. Thank you. One suggestion though..In your next update could you offer the option for the cpu usage bars to increase and decrease with a very smooth transition? An option for slimmer bars would be also nice. So far this is the most customizable gadget i found out there so i thought why not ask? Maybe u ca do it..
Thank you again
